Is this carpet done?
At SERVPRO of Palm Springs and Indian Wells we often encounter situations in which a homeowner is questioning disposal of the carpet.
When is my carpet past saving?
Simply put, when the insured item cannot be returned to its original or like condition. The carpet is past saving.
Beyond stains or visual aesthetics, the carpet should cover the floor and grip the tack strips.
In this shot we see a section of carpet that has started to delaminate or separate from the fibers.
This happens because most carpets are made with water soluble glue and when exposed to a water the glue breaks down.
If this occurs, the carpet cannot be attached to the tack strips and cannot be saved.
So, beyond the visual, if we cannot re-attach it...Its time to replace your carpet.

Pink paint or Tear Gas?
At SERVPRO of Palm Springs and SERVPRO of Indian Wells we can also assist with crime scene clean-up.
In this picture we see a shot of a wall in a residence that has been hit with a tear-gas canister.
Tear gas presents certain challenges when being cleaned. The first of which is to identify which gas has been used.
There are 15 separate compounds that are used as tear-gas.
Some of which can be cleaned with dry approaches, others, require wet cleaning.
Additionally, if you are vacuuming up a tear-gas damage, be mindful of proper ventilation in the structure. No breaks in hoses and that the site is properly ventilated.
Finally, when cleaning contents that have been affected, remember that they too must be cleaned outdoors or on a downdraft table.
